Riau Police Confiscate 2 Residents’ Honey Bear Tails

LAMANRIAU.COM, PEKANBARU – Ditreskrimsus Riau Regional Police confiscated two sun bears that were kept by residents. Allegedly, this wildlife is the result of snares in the Tesso Nilo National Park (TNTN).

“These two sun bears are male and female that we confiscated from residents. We have secured this evidence,” said Riau Police Chief Direskrimsus Andri Sudarmadi, Saturday (1/2/2020).

Andri explained that the bear was confiscated from the hands of a married couple with the initials E and Y. The couple were residents of Lubuk Kembang Bunga Village, Ukui District, Pelalawan Regency, Riau.

“Initially we got information from residents who raised sun bears. Our team together with members of the BBKSDA (Center for Conservation of Natural Resources) Riau headed for the village,” Andri said.

Confiscation of protected wildlife, said Andri, was carried out on Thursday (1/30/2020). The female bear is named Berby and the male is named Jack.

“These bears are the result of pig snares installed in the TNTN region. Male bears are obtained in December 2017 in the condition of tiller that is kept. Females are also the result of snares at the end of 2019, also maintained,” Andri said.

The two bears, said Andri, were immediately confiscated and taken to Pekanbaru. The couple was asked for information regarding the ownership of the two bears. He reminded the public not to put snares in the forest area for any reason. Because, it could be that ensnared precisely the type of protected animals.

“Immediately report to the police or Bhabinkamtibmas and local government officials if you find protected species to avoid undesirable things. Wild animals such as sun bears certainly have instincts as wild animals that can endanger humans,” Andri concluded. (dtc)
