Bengkalis Police Arrests Three Illegal Loggers

LAMANRIAU.COM, PEKANBARU – Three loggers who were arrested by the Bengkalis Police, Riau Province, carried out wood processing in the production forest area (HPT) of Rumbai Jaya Hamlet, Lubuk Gaung Village, Siak Kecil District.

Bengkalis Police Chief AKBP Hendra Gunawan, through his press statement in Bengkalis, Friday, revealed that the three illegal logging perpetrators were arrested on September 28, 2020 based on information from the community regarding the rampant illegal logging activities in the area.

“At that time the team conducted an investigation into the report, said Tipidter Reskrim at the Bengkalis Police and the Bukit Batu Police. Upon arriving at the TKP the team found that it was true that illegal logging was taking place or illegal logging,” the police chief.

The identity of the three suspects was BP bin Supangat as a carrier or a wood rafters. AA alias Ulung bin Usman as logging, and SL bin Saring as the transport of processed products from the forest to the raised beds.

“The evidence that was secured was 500 pieces of mixed processed wood, 5 units of cargo bikes and 2 units of chainsaws,” said the Police Chief.

The police chief stated that the perpetrator’s mode was to cut wood, then transport it without a document with a legal forest product certificate (SKSHHK).

As for them, they are subject to Article 83 paragraph (1) letters a, b Jo Article 98 paragraph 1 of Law number 18 of 2013 concerning the prevention and eradication of forest destruction.

“They are threatened with imprisonment for a minimum of 1 year and a maximum of 5 years and a fine of at least Rp500 million and a maximum of Rp2.5 billion,” he said.

Meanwhile, individuals who deliberately participate in carrying out or assisting the implementation of illegal logging using forest areas as referred to in Article 19 letter b, will be sentenced to imprisonment for a minimum of 1 year and a maximum of 3 years and a fine of IDR 500 million and a maximum of IDR 1.5 billion.
